Dr. Phillip Recoon

October 21, 1935 - March 19, 2026

Phillip Recoon, a longtime podiatrist in the Buffalo area, passed away peacefully at his home in Florida on March 19 with his devoted wife Laura by his side. He was 90 years old.

 Born and raised in Buffalo, he was the youngest son of Harry and Leah Recoon, who emigrated from Sovkolivka, Ukraine in the early 1920s. His parents operated a kosher poultry market, and he worked with his father, mother and his brother, Ed (of blessed memory), working after school and every summer at the Broadway Market.

 Dr. Recoon graduated from the University at Buffalo and the New York School of Podiatric Medicine. He met his wife, the former Laura Witlieb, on a blind date in New York City and they married in 1964. After graduating, he returned to Buffalo, where he opened a podiatry practice in Amherst and treated patients for over 40 years.

 He is survived by his wife Laura of 61 years, as well as his children Risa (Michael Appelbaum), Sheri (Howard Morse), David and his grandchildren (Madeline, Jason, Haley and Eliana) as well as his beloved nieces and nephews who were like children to him.

 A graveside service will be held Sunday, March 22 at 12:30pm at the Holy Order Living Cemetery, 645 Pine Ridge Heritage Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14225. Please assemble at the cemetery entrance at 12:15pm.
