Michael Shapiro

November 8, 1965 – September 18, 2025

Michael “Mike” Shapiro, born on November 8th, 1965, in Buffalo, NY, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on September 18th, 2025, after an extensive and brave battle with cancer at the age of 59.  He was predeceased by his mother and father, Sondra and Burton. 

Mike is survived by his wife, Lynn (née Purchase); his first wife, Cathryn, and their children Rachel (Thaddeus Gibson), Zachary, and Shane; his sister Lori (Steven Kaufman); nephew Jacob; niece Kai; cousins; an aunt; and many friends that he considered family.

Mike was born in Buffalo, NY, where he grew up in the Town of Tonawanda on Abbington Avenue.  Some of his greatest joy came from telling stories of his childhood and reminiscing with friends and family.  Mike loved to laugh and was a friend to all that he met.  He loved to watch the Buffalo Bills, spend time with family and friends, and tell stories about his time working for Verizon Wireless and the connections he made.  He was the first to check in on and ask someone how they were doing, even while he was actively receiving treatment for cancer.  Mike will be remembered most for his smile and the laughter he brought to everyone that knew him.

A Graveside Service will be held Monday 10 AM at Elmlawn Memorial Park in Kenmore. Please assemble at the Brighton Rd. entrance at 9:45 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Chordoma Foundation. Share condolences at mesnekoff.com
