Savit, Muriel “Mickey” (nee Schieff)
Of East Amherst, formerly of Syracuse, NY. Born January 16, 1931, passed suddenly on August 9, 2025. Devoted daughter of the late Richard and Pearl (Buck) Schieff; loving stepdaughter of the late Marion (Rutkoff) Schieff; loving wife of the late Herbert Savit; beloved mother of the late Patricia Barone and the late Michelle Polonski; mother-in-law of Stanley Polonski; cherished mimi to granddaughter Jillian (Bryan) and great-granddaughters, Alexa and Samantha and all of their friends. Also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mickey was a proud graduate of Nottingham High School in Syracuse, class of 1949. She was a military wife, living several years in Germany and stateside when her children were young. Mickey and Herb spent many years camping, and later at their cottage on Rushford Lake. Upon retiring from the Better Business Bureau of WNY, Mickey volunteered for various charitable organizations. She was President of Hadassah Shalom Group for four years, Hadassah Buffalo Chapter for two years and head of fundraising over many years. Mickey spent two decades traveling the world with a tight-knit group of friends. She enjoyed shopping, basking in the summer sun, dining on the water and was always up for spontaneous fun. Mickey was admired for the sound counsel she offered to those seeking advice on life’s challenges. She will be missed at her weekly canasta games where she enjoyed winning, and Mah Jongg games where she, sadly, did not.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, August 31st at 1:00 PM at Congregation Shir Shalom, 4660 Sheridan Dr, Williamsville 14221.
Flowers gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to Hadassah of Buffalo or Congregation Shir Shalom – Thanksgiving Basket Fund.
