Daniel E. McNamara: A Life of Innovation, Art, and Enduring Family Bonds
July 22, 2025
It is with deep sadness — and warm smiles at the many stories he leaves behind — that we announce the passing of Daniel “Danny” Edward McNamara on July 22, 2025. A man of boundless energy, creative genius, and at least three toolboxes at any given time, Danny, left behind an indelible mark on all who knew him. Danny was a devoted husband to his wife Orna McNamara (nee Wagner), father to Leemore (Alan) Burke, Talia (Scott) Bogoniewski, and Ilan McNamara, and grandfather to eleven lucky grandchildren.
Born in Willimantic, Connecticut, and raised in Crown Point, New York, Danny's formative years in the Adirondack Mountains profoundly shaped his lifelong appreciation for nature and the serene beauty of winter.
His life was marked by extraordinary athletic talent and physical prowess. From a young age, Daniel showcased remarkable abilities in acrobatics. Alongside his brother Michael and sister Michaela, he formed the "Acro Macs," an act that later evolved into the "McNamara Brothers Act." Their exceptional performances secured contracts across the East Coast, including notable appearances on Ted Mac's Amateur Hour and Ripley's Believe It Or Not. They shared stages with renowned performers such as Paul Whiteman, the McGuire Sisters, and Conway Twitty, with their shows airing on ABC, CBS, and NBC. Danny was also an avid skier, becoming a founding member of the Baldpate Ski Club, later competing at an elite level across the Northeast. He further embraced the challenge of long-distance running, successfully completing several marathons. His commitment to endurance was a consistent trait throughout his life, whether on the race course or in his professional pursuits. He shared this love with his children and grandchildren.
A dedicated scholar, Danny graduated from SUNY Plattsburgh with majors in Elementary Education and Art, followed by an MFA from the University at Buffalo. His deep commitment to art continued throughout his life; he painted, sketched, and sculpted, with his artwork displayed at the Birchfield Penny Art Center and in various private collections.
His career seamlessly integrated his artistic vision with practical engineering. In the professional arena, he served as Vice President of Tri Electronics Corporation before founding Plastic Systems of Greater Buffalo in 1979. As President and CEO, Danny pioneered the production of vacuum-formed plastics, many of which we see in arcade games. His company, a testament to his inventive spirit, was acquired by ICE Games in 2024.
Among his cherished family, Danny will be especially remembered for the joy he brought through his endless stories and playful spirit, particularly as the "horsey" for his grandchildren. His willingness to engage in their imaginative games created countless treasured memories.
Daniel McNamara was a kind and genuine mentor and friend to all. Instantly lovable, he will be deeply missed, and his legacy will continue to inspire.
